We’ve tried to think of all the obvious ones, but please contact us if there’s a question you’d like us to answer.
WHAT IS PEAKS AND TRAILS?
Peaks and Trails is a one stop shop for individuals, couples and groups to book a walking holiday with the confidence that your needs will be taken care of, whether it be a Guided, Self Guided or Challenge walk.
WHAT IS A GUIDED WALK?
For those individuals, couples or groups looking to get away but don’t want the hassle of having to plan and actually navigate the route.
One of our experienced Mountain Leaders will take care of everything, just turn up with the appropriate kit and clothing and enjoy your chosen walk.
Please contact us if your desired location or walk isn’t on our website and you’d like us to help.
WHAT IS A SELF GUIDED WALK?
Walkers have the independence to go at their own pace and make their own decisions but will have the worry of accommodation, route information and on some routes, transport to and from start / finish points also taken care of.
WHAT IS A CHALLENGE WALK?
For individuals, couples or groups who want to take their hillwalking to the next level but want the guidance of a Mountain Leader to help them on their way.
These walks usually consist of a time constraint or other limiting factor to increase the intensity and to create the challenge.
They can be great fitness goals, sponsored events or just completed for the sheer hell of it!
Please contact us if you have a particular challenge you have in mind.
HOW DO I CHOOSE MY WALKING HOLIDAY?
Points to consider:
-
Which part of the UK do I want to visit?
-
Who do I want to walk with?
-
Do I want someone to take care of the whole package or just part of the package?
-
Do I want a challenge or goal?
-
How many days do I want to walk for?
-
What is my fitness level?
-
What is my budget?
CAN I CUSTOMISE MY WALK?
Absolutely. Peaks and Trails appreciate that certain dates or itineraries won’t suit everyone. Just contact us for help in tailoring your perfect package with us.
HOW ARE THE WALKS GRADED?
There are many different variables that help us to grade each walk, such as; mileage, terrain and the typical weather conditions of the area.
Our grading scheme of Easy (one shoe print), Moderate (2 shoe prints) and Hard (3 show prints) are an indication a walk’s difficulty level to help you decide which suits your experience and fitness level. If in doubt, please shout.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN’T KEEP UP ON A GROUP WALK?
This is a common concern and is often one of the reasons that can stop potential walkers booking onto a new adventure.
Our Mountain Leaders are experienced enough to know how to manage a group of differing abilities whilst ensuring that everyone receives the same experience.
However, we have tried to ensure that each walk is adequately defined to minimise surprises on the day. The onus is therefore on the individual to be prepared and carry out the appropriate training if required.
WHAT IF I NEED TO TURN BACK OR I GET INJURED?
Guided Walk:
Any injury will be triaged and dealt with by our Mountain Leaders and an appropriate action plan will be initiated. Each guided walk will have two members of staff, one of which will accompany you back to either the start point or the finish point, whichever is closer.
Self Guided Walk:
It will be the decision of the individuals on the ground whether to turn back, carry on or head to the nearest village or town as per the definition of ‘Self Guided’.
Advice can always be sought from Peaks and Trails at any time on 07929 845178.
In the event of an injury that needs the attention of the emergency services, then the usual procedure should be followed.
WHAT KIT DO I NEED?
“There is no such thing as bad weather, just being poorly prepared!”
Each walk has a kit list, which is compulsory if walking on a guided walk and advisory if on a self guided walk.
WHAT HAPPENS IF BAD WEATHER IS FORECASTED?
Guided Walk:
If the weather is just a standard UK wet and windy day then the Mountain Leader will make a judgement call regarding any adjustments to the route.
If however, severe stormy weather is forecasted which would make the walk too dangerous to go ahead, then it may be necessary to postpone the walk completely. Individuals will receive a 50% refund in this instance.
It is therefore encouraged that individuals have adequate insurance to cover the cost of such an event.
Self Guided Walk:
It is down to the individuals whether to proceed with their walking holiday. No refund will be issued if the decision is made not to go ahead.
Adequate insurance should always be obtained.
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE EVENING DURING GROUP WALKS?
During the course of the day the group gets to know each other and it’s then a great opportunity to have a meal and a few drinks together in the evening.
We do understand this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and therefore the social is totally optional.
WHAT IS THE ACCOMMODATION LIKE?

For walks where this is included in the package, please be assured that we have carefully selected the accommodation to fit the holiday. We choose from a variety of hotels and pub B&B’s that we know very well.
If walkers prefer to make their own arrangements or when booking a walk where accommodation isn’t included, then advice from Peaks and Trails can be provided.
WILL I BE SHARING?
Guided and Challenge walks.
Due to the locations of these walks, accommodation is usually at a premium. We therefore book twin rooms for the whole group and walkers will be expected to 'buddy up’.
If this is something that concerns you, please try and book with a friend to share the twin room.
If this is still not possible, please contact us directly to check for any single occupancy availability. This will incur an extra charge of £80.
Self Guided.
If you are a solo walker then you won’t be sharing.
HOW DO I BOOK?
Simply choose the walk you’d like to experience, go to the checkout on the website and if required add the dates in the ‘Add a Note’ section.
Alternatively you can call us on 07929 845178 to book if you’d prefer.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE PRICE?
Each walk has a list of what is included and what isn’t included to help you budget accordingly.
HOW MUCH DEPOSIT IS NEEDED?
50%. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions.
WHEN DO I NEED TO PAY THE BALANCE?
We will invoice you the final balance of your walk, which you must pay six weeks before the start date of the walk.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY BOOKING?
Please see the Terms and Conditions.
